This event marks the launch of the first UNESCO Chair dedicated to cultural heritage in Brazil: the UNESCO Chair in Cultural Heritage and Landscape, hosted by the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG). The initiative establishes an internationally articulated academic platform for research, education, and cooperation on themes such as heritage, culture, and landscape, grounded in an interdisciplinary approach.

The event program brings together representatives from national and international institutions, experts, universities, and heritage preservation and funding agencies, fostering a space for reflection on the intersections between heritage, landscape, and technology. The discussions address contemporary challenges in heritage preservation and management, considering the impacts of technological transformations and the growing importance of interdisciplinarity in academic and institutional practices.

The keynote lecture will be delivered by Djalma Thürler, Coordinator of Chamber 2 – Social Sciences and Humanities of the Interdisciplinary Area at CAPES, offering reflections on the effects of interdisciplinary research on public policies and on the recognition and valorization of cultural heritage.
